Last Sunday, OKREAL hosted a charity event for Girls On The Run: a transformational physical activity based youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade.
At 8am, women from the OKREAL community and a team of young girls ran two miles along the High Line and West Side Highway. Music by Spring Moves kept everyone’s spirits high, and our youngest runner (age four) kept up for (almost) the whole way. We returned to The High Line Hotel for a Strala Yoga class, followed with breakfast by Dimes and Ovenly. Our fashion sponsor AYR supplied bags and tees for everyone who came.
Part of the FFF Series over NY Fashion Week, the event aimed to raise money and awareness for the organization—by bringing together a group of aspirational women to create a motivating environment for the girls. Hearing them speak before we ran together was the best part. They each claimed the program had improved their self-esteem, confidence, and had taught them how to pace themselves—not just in a race but in their little lives.
Thank you to everyone who got up early to run with a bunch of hyper 10-year-olds, as well as to all of our sponsors and Linda Honan for making the event possible.
